Snow is raised from the surface of the earth by the wind to a height of less than 1.5 to 2.0 meters (5 to 6.6 feet) above the surface; it does not restrict horizontal visibility at 2 meters (6.6 feet) or more above the surface. When snow is raised more than 2 meters above the ground it is called blowing snow. Drifting snow causes an uneven distribution of snowfall/snow depth since the drifting snow accumulates on the lee sides of obstacles (e.g., hills, buildings). Drifting snow may occur during or after a snowfall. Drifting snow is usually associated with blowing snow. A type of windborne snow.
